UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON TILMAN J. FERTITTA FAMILY COLLEGE OF MEDICINE

Location: Houston, TX

Owner: University of Houston

The University of Houston recently celebrated the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the $80 million Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine building on an expansive 43-acre site. The three-story, 130,000 square-foot school is one of the first new Houston-based medical schools in nearly 50 years and was designed by Page. S/L/A/M Collaborative served as architect of record, and Vaughn Construction managed the build.

Sustainability was a significant driver in the design. The Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine is the first LEED Gold Building on the university’s campus.

Binswanger Glass enabled optimal energy performance by installing an energy efficient EFCO Corporation storefront entrance and aluminum curtain wall system. Guardian Glass SunGuard SNX 51/23 insulating glass units fabricated by Precision Glass Industries provide high light transmission and enhance daylighting while meeting stringent energy codes and reducing air conditioning demands. The triple silver low-e coated glass combines superior solar control with a subtle blue hue and perfectly complement the dramatic laminated glass fins.
